Giant Granny Square

A while back, I got some multicolored yarn from my grandmother (who is the one who taught me how to knit when I was a kid). Now, I'm not a big fan of multicolored yarns. I think that in the right circumstances (a combination of patter design and the color scheme of the yarn) they work, but more often then not, I tend to not use them. So, I decided to use it to practice a bit of crocheting. I took the traditional granny square pattern and I just kept expanding it until I ran out of the yarn. Currently, I think that what I am going to do with this is that I'm going to make a pillow to the size of the granny square, and then tack the granny square onto it (I had originally thought it might end up being big enough to be considered a small blanket but it ended up being a bit smaller than that).

Also, I came across this article the other day: 7 of the Most Beautiful Fox Species in the World. Foxes have been my favorite animal since I read about the Kitsunes of Japanese folklore. The Red fox is my favorite out of the ones featured in the article but the Marble fox has some amazing coloring :).

First Hat of the Season

I finished my first hat of the season. The yarn for it is 100% wool. A very basic design, which was good because this is the first pattern I've used that had a chart, and I had to rip out the first few rounds after the ribbing a few times before I figured out how to read it (I tried looking up how to read charts on the internet, but apparently how they're supposed to be read can vary from pattern to pattern). However, I think sometimes when you have to do that, the next time it's easier for you to remember how to do it the right way :)

Green Shawl

I realized the other day that I finished the green shawl that I've been working on for, well, a while :), over a month ago, but I never posted any pictures of it. So....

I still have to block it, so once that's done, I'll post some pictures of the edging at the ends, because that is curled up at the moment.

Temari Handball

Back in August (is really almost November?!), I went to the Bon Odori festival in Charlotte. There, I got an example of a Japanese fiber art that I had added to my list of things I want to learn how to make: a Temari Handball.

This website has an example of a gorgeous set of Temari Handballs made by one woman: http://www.boredpanda.com/92-year-old-grandmother-temari-spheres/ :)

Let's try this again.....

I've finally gotten used to my unpredictable new work schedule enough to actually think about working on this blog. I've come to actually enjoy not have the same exact work schedule each week; it keeps things from getting monotonous and boring. However, after have a very strict schedule for so long, in order to actually use your time wisely, you really have to change how you think about the free time you have. So I'm aiming to post something on here about once a week for now and I'll see how that goes. Oh, and I finished up the major stuff on the Facebook page and published it: www.facebook.com/wabisabikomorebi.
